Anthropic charges $99 for CCAO-F, $125 for CCDV-F, $125 for CCAR-F and $175 for CCAR-P. Those are the exam fees only. Anthropic lets you pay them only if your employer is in the Claude Partner Network. If it is not, you can apply to join Timo Labs. Timo Platform membership costs US$50 for two months and includes Timo assessments, practical tests, badges and mock exams, Claude and OpenAI practitioner tracks, and profile and enterprise project features as they become available. You choose your track, prepare with the official material through Anthropic's program, and then book the exam; Anthropic's published fee applies.
The two columns stay separate. Anthropic bills you for the exam. Timo bills you for platform membership. Budget for training too, and for a retake fee if you fail.
The published exam fees
| Code | Certification | Items | Time | Anthropic's fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CCAO-F | Claude Certified Associate, Foundations | 60 | 120 min | $99 |
| CCDV-F | Claude Certified Developer, Foundations | 53 | 120 min | $125 |
| CCAR-F | Claude Certified Architect, Foundations | 60 | 120 min | $125 |
| CCAR-P | Claude Certified Architect, Professional | 63 | 120 min | $175 |
All four exams run 120 minutes through Anthropic's exam partner, either online with a proctor or at a test centre. All four need a scaled score of 720 out of 1,000. The credential lasts 12 months. Renewing on time is free.

Timo Platform membership costs US$50 for two months and includes Timo assessments, practical tests, badges and mock exams, Claude and OpenAI practitioner tracks, and profile and enterprise project features as they become available.
Why each track costs a different amount
Anthropic prices the four exams in three bands: $99, $125 and $175. The price maps to the depth and scope of the certification, not the number of questions alone.
CCAO-F at $99 is the entry-level credential. Its 60 items cover the broadest surface area at the shallowest depth: use cases, safety principles, the Claude product family and basic prompt patterns. The exam fee is lowest because it tests familiarity, not specialist knowledge.
CCDV-F and CCAR-F at $125 both demand applied skill. CCDV-F packs 53 items into the same 120 minutes, and the items ask about API integration, tool use, agent design and token management. CCAR-F has 60 items that test system design, deployment patterns, security boundaries and multi-model orchestration. The higher fee reflects the specialist depth.
CCAR-P at $175 is the most expensive exam, with 63 items at a professional bar. It assumes you have already cleared the associate-level knowledge and tests at the architect level: enterprise deployment, model selection across a portfolio of workloads, cost governance and latency architecture. The 63 items carry more weight than the associate exams' 60. Architect-level items take longer to answer because they present multi-part scenarios, not single-fact recall.
The exam fee is set by Anthropic and is not negotiable. The three price bands have stayed the same since the programme launched on 12 March 2026. Anthropic has not announced plans to change them.
The track you pick also determines how much time you will spend preparing. CCAO-F candidates typically need 20 to 30 hours of study. CCDV-F and CCAR-F candidates need 30 to 50 hours because the material goes deeper into applied skills. CCAR-P candidates should budget 50 to 80 hours, as the professional-level exam expects working knowledge of enterprise Claude deployments, not just the study guide. More preparation hours mean more of your own time, which is a real cost even when the study material is free.
Choosing the right track matters for cost too. A developer who picks CCAR-P because it sounds more impressive will pay $76 more in exam fees than if they had chosen CCDV-F, and will spend roughly twice as long preparing for material that does not match their daily work. Pick the track that matches what you do. The track comparison guide walks through each one.

What people actually spend
The published exam fee is the starting point, not the total. Most candidates spend more than the exam fee alone. Here is what a realistic budget looks like for three common paths.
Path one: partner employer covers everything. Some employers pay the exam fee and provide exam preparation resources. Cost to the candidate: nothing. This is the cheapest path but only available to people already at a partner company with a training budget.
Path two: Timo skills assessment, self-study, pass first time. Timo Platform membership costs US$50 for two months. The exam fee is separate and paid to Anthropic. CCAO-F carries a $99 exam fee. CCDV-F and CCAR-F each carry a $125 exam fee. CCAR-P carries a $175 exam fee. You pay Timo for the stated membership period and Anthropic for the exam booking. The two charges are separate invoices from different organisations.
The numbers above separate every charge by who bills it. Timo invoices you for platform membership. Anthropic invoices you for each exam booking. The two organisations never bill on the same invoice.
For context, most technical certifications cost between $100 and $400 for the exam alone. AWS Solutions Architect Professional is $300. Google Professional Cloud Architect is $200. The Claude certification fees sit in the middle of that range. What makes Claude certification different is the partner-company gate. Most other certification programmes let anyone with a credit card register. Anthropic does not. That gate, not the exam fee, is the real barrier.
If you are weighing the cost against the return, the credential signals something specific: you can work with Claude at a level Anthropic itself has defined and tested. Hiring managers who understand the programme know the difference between a CCAO-F and a CCAR-P. The credential is worth the cost if the roles you want ask for it.
What the fee does not cover
Registration access
The fee is only payable through a Claude Partner Network organisation, using a work email on a recognised company domain. If your employer is not a partner, you cannot pay Anthropic's published fee at any price. Timo is one route round it. The three routes round it are here.
Retakes
A failed attempt costs the full exam fee again. Anthropic also enforces a wait: 14 days after a first failure, 30 after a second, 90 after a third, with four attempts maximum per exam in a rolling 12 months.
What two attempts cost in practice: CCAR-P at $175 means $350 paid to Anthropic for two exam bookings. Two CCAO-F attempts at $99 means $198. Two CCDV-F or CCAR-F attempts at $125 means $250. If your Timo access has expired between attempts, the exam fee and Timo's membership fee remain separate charges billed by different organisations.
Training
Anthropic publishes free official course material for each track. It is good, and it is enough for some people. What it does not include is a reviewed practical project, a person to ask when you are stuck, or a mock exam that tells you whether you are ready.
Your preparation budget depends on the resources you choose; Timo membership and any provider charges are separate. Third-party Claude certification prep courses do not exist yet in any meaningful number, so the official material is what most candidates use.
Renewal
Twelve months after you pass, the credential expires. Renewing on time costs nothing. You review what has changed, then take a free assessment set by Anthropic. Only a lapsed credential means paying the full exam fee again. The renewal rules are here.
Retake costs: what you pay when you fail
Anthropic does not bundle retakes into the first exam fee. Every attempt, including every retake, costs the full exam fee again. The waiting periods are fixed and enforced by Anthropic's exam partner.
| Attempt | Waiting period after failure | Exam fee due again |
|---|---|---|
| First attempt | None | Full exam fee |
| First retake | 14 days | Full exam fee |
| Second retake | 30 days | Full exam fee |
| Third retake | 90 days | Full exam fee |
Anthropic caps the attempts at four per exam track in a rolling 12-month window. After the fourth attempt you cannot book the same exam again until the window resets. The cap is per track, so failing CCAR-P does not block you from booking CCAR-F.
Two CCAR-P attempts means $350 paid to Anthropic for exams alone. Two CCAO-F attempts means $198. Two CCDV-F or CCAR-F attempts means $250. The exam fee and Timo's membership fee are separate charges billed by different organisations.
Plan for a retake when you budget. The pass-rate data Anthropic has shared with partners suggests most candidates clear the exam on the first or second attempt when they use the official preparation material and take the full study time. A second attempt is common. A third is rare. The 90-day wait after a third failure is long enough that most people restart their preparation from the beginning.
Here is what two attempts cost, track by track. CCAO-F: $198 to Anthropic. CCDV-F: $250 to Anthropic. CCAR-F: $250 to Anthropic. CCAR-P: $350 to Anthropic. Those are the exam fees only. Timo membership covers the stated two-month access period. Any renewal or additional service requires its own disclosed terms and payment.
The waiting schedule matters because it stretches the total timeline. A candidate who fails CCAR-P twice waits 44 days between the first and third attempt. Someone who fails three times waits 134 days across four attempts. The four-attempt cap resets 12 months after the first attempt, not the last. Plan your study timeline around these windows, not just the exam date. Budget both the money and the calendar time before you book.
Comparing Timo's cost to other routes
If your employer is already in the Claude Partner Network, you may pay nothing for exam prep resources. Some partner employers cover the exam fee too. Most cover at least the official preparation resources. Ask your manager or L&D team before paying for anything yourself.
If your employer is not a partner, your options are limited. You can ask your company to apply to the Partner Network, but the application review takes months and has no guaranteed outcome. You can wait for Anthropic to open public registration, which has no announced date. Or you can go through a partner that offers exam access, which is what Timo does.
Timo Platform membership costs US$50 for two months and includes Timo assessments, practical tests, badges and mock exams, Claude and OpenAI practitioner tracks, and profile and enterprise project features as they become available.
What year one actually costs
| Scenario | Paid to Anthropic | Paid to Timo |
|---|---|---|
| Partner employer, free voucher, self-study, pass first time | Nothing | Nothing |
| Partner employer pays the fee, self-study, pass first time | One exam fee, $99 to $175 | Nothing |
| Partner employer, self-study, one retake | Two exam fees | Nothing |
| No partner employer, Timo Labs route, pass first time | One exam fee, $99 to $175 | Timo membership, $50 for two months |
| No partner employer, Timo Labs route, one retake | Two exam fees | Timo membership, $50 for two months |
Which fee applies to you
Pick the track that matches the work you do. A CCAO-F badge does not answer a hiring manager who wants an architect. The comparison is here.
Retakes and appointment changes
A retake requires another official exam fee. Late changes or a missed appointment may also require another fee under the current exam rules. Anthropic's exam partner allows you to reschedule or cancel an appointment up to 24 hours before the start time at no extra charge. If you miss the window or do not show up, you forfeit the exam fee and need to pay again for a new appointment. This is standard across most proctored certification exams. If you are unsure whether you are ready, reschedule early rather than risk the no-show forfeit. The 24-hour window is strict and enforced by the exam delivery platform, not by Anthropic or Timo. Review the exam partner rescheduling and cancellation policy before choosing an appointment.
