How Long Does the Claude Certification Last?

Twelve months, and renewing on time costs nothing.

Every Claude certification is valid for 12 months from the date the credential is awarded. Renewal is free. You review what has changed since you certified, then complete a free, non-proctored assessment set by Anthropic. There is no fee for on-time renewal. If the credential lapses, you retake the full exam at the full fee.

This is identical across all four tracks. Only the price and the exam blueprint differ.

What Anthropic's exam guides say

All four official exam guides, version 1.0 effective July 2026, carry the same line: the credential has a stated validity period of 12 months from the date it is awarded, subject to Anthropic's terms and any suspension or revocation. The renewal wording is also identical across the four documents.

To renew on time, you review what has changed since you certified and complete a free, non-proctored assessment set by Anthropic. There is no fee for on-time renewal. If your credential lapses, you must retake the full exam at the full fee to regain certified status.

One caveat worth knowing. Anthropic reserves the right to require a full re-examination if exam content changes significantly.

The badge confirms it

Anthropic awards the credential and Credly issues the digital badge. Public Claude certification badges carry the expiry date in their metadata, and a badge issued on 27 July 2026 shows an expiry of 27 July 2027. That is the policy applied to a real, issued credential.

Why you may still see six months quoted

Because it used to be true. Anthropic launched the first Claude certification on 12 March 2026 with a six-month validity period. On 30 June 2026 the programme changed: exam delivery moved to Anthropic's exam partner, badging moved to Credly, the Architect Foundations fee rose from $99 to $125, and validity doubled to twelve months.

Anthropic applied the change retroactively. Certifications earned before 30 June 2026 under the old six-month rule were extended automatically to twelve months from their original award date.

Several widely read articles were written days either side of that change and never updated. If you are reading a source that says six months, check its date against 30 June 2026.

What renewal actually involves

Anthropic has published the mechanism but not yet the full detail, and says details will be shared before the first credentials come up for renewal. Nobody has renewed yet, because the earliest twelve-month credentials expire from March 2027 onwards.

What is confirmed today:

We do not publish a format, a length or a pass mark for the renewal assessment, because Anthropic has not published one.

What this means for what you pay

A Claude certification is a one-off cost, not an annual subscription. You pay the exam fee once. Provided you renew before the credential expires, you pay nothing again.

That changes the arithmetic for anyone weighing it up. The comparison is not $175 every year. It is $175 once, then a free assessment each year to stay current.

Registration is the part that catches people out

Validity is straightforward. Registration is not. Anthropic gates exam registration behind the Claude Partner Network, and a personal email address will not work at sign-in. If your employer is in the Claude Partner Network, register with your work email. If it is not, you can register through Timo. The registration routes open to an individual are explained here.

Common questions

Do Claude certifications expire?

Yes. Every Claude certification expires 12 months after the date the credential is awarded. The expiry date appears in the Credly badge metadata.

Do I have to pay again to renew a Claude certification?

No, provided you renew before it expires. Anthropic states that on-time renewal carries no fee and is completed through a free, non-proctored assessment set by Anthropic.

What happens if my Claude certification expires?

If the credential lapses you must retake the full exam and pay the full exam fee again to regain certified status.

Is the Claude certification valid for six months or twelve?

Twelve months. Six months was the original validity period when the programme launched in March 2026. Anthropic changed it to twelve months on 30 June 2026 and extended existing credentials automatically.

Does validity differ between CCAO-F, CCDV-F, CCAR-F and CCAR-P?

No. All four tracks carry the same 12-month validity, the same 720 out of 1000 pass score and the same 120-minute duration. Only the fee and the exam blueprint differ.
